Uwill, a mental health and wellness provider, has announced its acquisition of Virtual Care Group. The move is expected to expand Uwill’s ability to serve its growing base of over 2 million students, primarily in the United States. It is already partnered with more than 300 colleges, including institutions such as Babson College, the University of Michigan, and Columbus State Community College.
Founded as an online mental health platform, Uwill connects college students with licensed counselors for tailored online care. Acquiring Virtual Care Group represents a step to enhance its digital offerings and broaden its reach to more universities. Michael London, founder and CEO of Uwill, described the partnership as a natural fit. “Virtual Care Group has a well-earned reputation as a trusted partner for college leaders and students alike. Together, our reach, popularity, and digital capabilities meet the needs of any college in the world,” London stated.

Addressing mental health challenges among college students has become increasingly urgent. According to the American College Health Association (ACHA), an estimated 77% of college students struggle with mental health. Yet, research highlights a significant gap in care: only half of students with mental health conditions access support, and a third report not knowing where to turn during a crisis.
London identified stressors students face, including academic pressures, personal challenges, and uncertainty about the future. While these issues are broadly consistent, their intensity and nature often vary depending on location and time of year. He noted the importance of digital tools in addressing these concerns, emphasizing their role in providing accessibility, flexibility, and immediacy, which are often barriers in traditional mental health services.

Uwill’s platform delivers more than counseling services. It offers crisis and psychiatric support, wellness resources such as yoga and meditation, and a data feature that allows students to track their mental health progress. These tools aim to provide consistent support whether students are on campus or studying remotely. This focus on accessibility is particularly valuable for those balancing busy schedules or living in areas with limited local resources.
The addition of Virtual Care Group is expected to strengthen Uwill’s ability to meet growing demand for mental health support in higher education. The nationwide network and telehealth expertise of Virtual Care Group complement Uwill’s technology-driven approach. Danny Zusman, founder and CEO of Virtual Care Group, described the acquisition as a significant development for the sector. “Through the integration of our extensive nationwide reach with Uwill’s focused technological investments, we aim to improve the support and resources available to the students, faculty, and staff we serve,” he said.
