Developing an entrepreneurial mindset is a valuable skill that remains relevant throughout one’s life, according to Miguel Costa, Dean of Admissions & Outreach at IE University. This mindset is not limited to business, but is a human-centric ability that can be applied to various aspects of life.
Manuel Muñiz, Rector of IE University, notes that integrating entrepreneurship and university-level learning can strengthen the bridge between secondary and higher education. This can equip students with the necessary skills and global outlook to create impact in a rapidly changing world.
Cambridge Advanced Skills Award in Entrepreneurial Mindset
The Cambridge Advanced Skills Award in Entrepreneurial Mindset is a new course being piloted by eight schools in different countries, including China, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, New Zealand, Czechia, and Poland. Teacher training is already underway at IE University in Madrid.
Kate Hawthorn, a teacher from Pinehurst School in New Zealand, expressed her enthusiasm for the course, stating that it develops confidence, resilience, adaptability, and independent thinking in students. She believes that this course will be valuable for young people in preparing them for an uncertain world.
Manmeet Kaur, a teacher from HELP International School in Malaysia, also welcomed the opportunity to learn and collaborate on the pilot program. She has been running a similar program in her school and is looking forward to implementing the course with an entrepreneurial mindset.
Certification and Future Plans
Students who complete the pilot course successfully will receive a certificate at Pass, Merit or Distinction that references both Cambridge and IE University, giving clear evidence of their readiness for transition to higher education. The partners will work closely with the schools to shape the final award and plan to introduce more courses focused on future-ready skills.
The Cambridge IPQ will be relaunched in 2028, with a focus on the process rather than the product. This will give students more opportunities to develop their independent study skills and showcase their creativity and aspirations in readiness for university and careers.
A new profiling approach will also be introduced, which will provide students, teachers, and universities with a clearer picture of the complex thinking skills embedded in every Cambridge AS and A Level. This will help students recognize and articulate the unique combination of knowledge, skills, and attributes that a Cambridge education builds.
Broader Ambition
These developments are part of a broader ambition to offer a flexible range of pathways that support more learners and schools for the future. By doing so, students will be better equipped to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
